Bernd Blobel

Bernd Blobel, PhD, FACMI, FACHI, FHL7, FEFMI, Professor, trained in mathematics, technical cybernetics and electrical engineering, physics, theoretical medicine, informatics and medical informatics, was Founder and Head of the Medical Informatics Department as well as Director of the Institute for Biometry and Medical Informatics at the Magdeburg University. In 2004, he moved as Founder and Head of the Health Telematics Project Group to the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits in Erlangen, before he was appointed in 2006 as Head of the German eHealth Competence Center (eHCC) at the University Hospital Regensburg. There he has installed the Regensburg International Interdisciplinary PhD and PostDoc College. Since its establishment, Bernd Blobel is Council Member of the German Coordination Authority for IT Security, representing there the healthcare sector. Bernd Blobel was Co-Chair Health Commission of the UNESCO World Information Technology Forum (WITFOR), Founder and Board Member of the Research and Development Institute for Health and Social Affairs Saxony-Anhalt as well as Founder and Chair of the Cancer Registry for that federal state. He got appointed as Advisor of the German Federal Ministry for Health and Social Affairs on health telematics and acted in such position for several German federal state ministries. He became engaged as International Advisor for the national eHealth and/or EHR projects in Australia, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, Malaysia, Peru, Syria, USA, among others. Bernd Blobel is Past-Chair/-Vice-Chair of the WGs "Standards in Health Care Informatics" and ìSecurity in Health Information Systemsî at the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA). Furthermore, he was long-term Chair of the WGs ìEHRî and ìSecurity, Safety and Ethicsî at the European Federation for Medical informatics (EFMI). He was Co-Founder and Chair of HL7 Germany and has been Chair of the CEN/ISSS eHealth Standardization Focus Group, Chair of the German Health Informatics Standards Body as well as Head of the German Delegation to ISO TC215 and CEN TC251. Bernd Blobel was Founder and long-term Chair of the Healthcare Working Group at the German Association for Data Protection and Data Security (GDD) as well as Chair and Vice Chair of the Working Groups ìStandards for Interoperability and EHRî and ìSecurity in Health Information Systemsî at the German Association for Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology (GMDS). He provides research and education on EHR, personal health, architectures, ontologies, modelling, interoperability, security, privacy, safety, and bioinformatics issues, new technologies and paradigms including big data and analytics at universities in many countries around the world, partially offered as Honorary Fellow of the EuroMISE European Mentor Association. In the latter's context, he got appointed as Visiting Professor at the First Medical Faculty, Charles University Prague, Czech Republic. He is Member of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics (IAHSI). He is author/co-author/editor/co-editor of 38 scientific books as well as author/coauthor of about 500 scientific papers.
